Storytelling

is a key part of my work. In all of my projects I try to have an underlining meaning beneath beautiful visuals. I work hard with my clients to understand who their target audience is, and how to best reach them.

I love the process of meticulously planning out and shooting each shot. While it's not always the easiest, I edit my footage with a fine tooth comb, cutting it down to the core meaning. I believe my process creates strong stories and content, drawing in viewers.

Two Kinds of Sadness

Narrative music video

What happens to you when you learn your partner will need a heart and lung transplant to survive? Box of Matches approached me with their single Two Kinds of Sadness which was to be released as a part of a larger EP. They wanted to create a narrative music video to help promote the release of their EP. The song Two Kinds of Sadness is about the band leader's experience waiting for their partner to get a heart and lung transplant. The music video tells the story of how he learned his partner would need the transplant, and the feeling of dread that infused his life in the months waiting for the call.

Trespasser

black and white cinematography practice short

Inspired by Richard Brooks 1967 film "In Cold Blood," Trespasser is a short black and white cinematography film I directed and shot to practice lighting for darkness. My goal was to make the film look like it was only light by streetlights, moonlight, and a flashlight. I paid special attention to contrast ratios and making sure enough detail was in the camera negative to avoid any un intentional loss of detail in the shadows. Additionally, I created a custom credits sequence inspired by Saul Bass.

The Network

short documentary

The Network is a short documentary about the secret mycorrhizal network beneath our feet. I wanted to create a style that was thoughtful and reflected the forest's natural beauty. To achieve this, over three months, I created animations that felt natural and tactile while also shooting complementing scenic shots of forests.

With only a plot of trash to start, two farmers create the only healthy food option in a neighborhood. This short documentary explores the stories of two founders of the Florence Fang Community Farm in the Bayview district in San Francisco. Established in 2014, the farm is the only healthy food option in the neighborhood. Over the course of half a year, I created a short documentary about how this unique farm was founded and its impact in the community.

Designing The Ascent

Short documentary about climbing culture

I co directed, edited, and was the cinematographer for this short documentary. Our small team of three people created this piece that explores climbing culture by talking about how climbing routes are designed. We used Formal interview setups overlayed on top of location footage of climbers working through routes. We shot this in a combination of indoor gyms and outdoor climbing spots.

24 hour free hackathon for high school students

Hyphen-Hacks sees hundreds of applications and attendees every year; in order to manage these applications, I created a custom event management system and dashboard for the leaders of Hyphen-Hacks. This system enables the Hyphen-Hacks team to review applications, segment their attendees, and keep track of who is on campus during the event. Additionally, I created the online branding and presence for Hyphen-Hacks as well as created an animated promotional video for them.
